Field of the Invention This invention relates to a method of improving the development of electrographic powder images, in particular by decreasing the threshold for toning or by increasing the toner coating. 2. Description of the Prior Art Electrostatographic recording materials are used in electrophotography and electrostatography for forming images. An electrophotographic element comprises a photosensitive insulating layer and a layer of electrically conductive material that is usually referred to as a "charge-retentive electrode". These elements are described in further detail in U.S. Pat. No. 2,297,691. The basic electrographic process involves placing the electrographic recording material and a source of electrostatic energy, such as an electrographic stylus, into intimate contact, and thereafter applying a suitable electric field to the element. For example, the stylus can be caused to move in one direction, while an oppositely charged member is moved through the material. Such a technique is described in U.S. Pat. No. 2,297,691. Alternatively, the electrostatic energy can be used to cause the stylus to move through the element while the element is retained stationary. When the electrostatic energy is removed, the electric charge previously deposited on the element by the stylus maintains a high potential (about 400 volts) in the areas of the element which were contacted by the stylus. Such areas are called "toner areas", and the potential is called "toner potential". On the element, the toner potential is the potential across the element, which is that potential minus the applied electrostatic energy applied by the stylus. For example, where the toner potential is 400 volts, the applied electrostatic energy is about 400 volts. The toner potential is the maximum toner potential and can range from 400 volts to 1,500 volts or more. The toner potential is the potential of the toner areas that retain the charge deposited by the stylus. A latent electrostatic image can be developed by bringing the charged element in contact with a toner. The toner can be in a dry or liquid form. Typically the toner is a colored powder and is referred to as "toner". The toner can also be a charged liquid. The liquid is referred to as a "developing liquid".
