DINING DURING THE PANDEMIC

I have a question for you dear readers! How many memes of 2020 being the worst year in history have you seen till date and related to them, while sipping dalgona coffee on your couches while binging every show existing on Netflix?

Hello there and welcome to another blog by the junk food junction. We post these blogs just to share our experiences with food to the small audience that we have.

We had just completed our board exams, in the middle of march and with pure excitement had plans about hanging out with friends, dining out, vacationing and just enjoying the new freedom we had got. The coronavirus was just a mere joke about "a person eating a bat in China" at that time and by the end of march almost the whole world was under lockdown.

All of the plans had to be sent down the drain and we had to sit at home. The lockdown was a goldmine for people showing their talents as they had no work. The lockdown saw many “master chefs” coming out as all of the restaurants were closed. I have a story of my dad cooking a paneer and egg dish during the lockdown and us unwillingly eating this weird combination.

We saw many food trends during the infamous “sitting at home” phase, the most trending being the dalgona coffee. Dalgona Coffee is a korean beverage made by beating coffee with sugar and hot water until it’s creamy and then you add hot or cold milk, until you can see a proper division of white and brown.People went crazy behind this trend with instagram feeds loaded with pictures of people making or drinking this beverage. One more trend which was followed a lot was the baking of banana bread.

The lockdown helped people use their time to try different things, we also saw a major shift in roles with the help being away and people actually making their own food. This also showed people eating and drinking healthy. Recipes of various immunity boosting beverages were distributed via social media, the majority of them being the worst tasting KADHA.

Dining also changed majorly as we

went back to sitting down with our families and chatting about our happy times and experiences of our past. We also experienced ramadan during the lo

ckdown. Ramadan in Mumbai is like a goldmine for foodies. Everything being available from falooda to crispy chicken and shawarma to malpuas. We could not order this from outside this year but we could create them at home. Everyday of Ramadan was a real adventure, with delicious food being prepared by mum's hand for every iftar.

As i speak about people eating healthy, we also binged on chips and farsan during the lockdown. Soft drinks were being drunk like water, personal experience ‘i have developed an ice tea addiction’ due to the lockdown, hence we could see a significant ponch when we met our friends after the lockdown.

A personal note of thanks to all the frozen food companies who provided amazing stuff during the lockdown from momos to seekhs. This all ended when we heard that swiggy was back and chicken fried rice made its return.

We hope you liked this piece, if u liked it please share it with your friends and follow us on instagram @_the.junkfood.junction_.

Till Then,

THANK YOU AND STAY SAFE!!
